Abstract

The article describes major stages of the development of insurance law in Latvia today. Presently relations in the field of insurance, regulated by rules of law, have their own characteristics and relevance. The current system of legal regulation of the insurance sector in Latvia includes general legal acts, special standard regulations, by-laws and institutional standard regulations, all based on the relevant EU Directives on insurance. The author considers separate development stages of legal provision of insurance contractual relations in Latvia, describes some existing problems and mentions possibilities for improvement of the legal regulation of insurance law in Latvia in accordance with the requirements of the relevant EU Directives in the EU unified legal space.
